ABOUT IMI

Our History

Five decades of transforming lives across India.

OUR JOURNEY

From Six Children to Thousands of Lives

1997

Officially Registered

Inter-Mission India is officially registered under the leadership of U. Benjamin, beginning with a small home of 6 children in North Chennai. In 1998, IMI takes on a home of 10 children in Thirunindravur and later a school for slum children in Palavakkam.

2001

FCRA Approved — National Expansion

IMI obtains FCRA status, enabling international partnerships. IMI now supports and manages 8 partner homes across South India, expands to a Matriculation School in Chennai, and begins monthly Medical Health Check-Ups and Child Care Training programmes for home parents.

2004

Tsunami Response

Following the Indian Ocean Tsunami, IMI conducts coordinated relief efforts in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and South India with partner organisations. New children’s homes are opened for tsunami-affected children in Karaikal, Yelamanchilly, and Port Blair.

Today

A Thriving Network of Care

IMI continues to run Children’s Homes, Schools, Day Schools, Women’s Empowerment Projects, and Disaster Relief initiatives.
